Supergirl May Get a Last-Minute Musical Change

Breaking it down: The techno tones of Ramin Djawadi briefly teased in ‘Supergirl’ are now possibly replaced with Junkie XL.

When you see Supergirl in a couple months, it might sound different from how you were expecting. Eagle-eyed the fandom have noted that the films site reveals a new composer for the films score: Tom Holkenborg, perhaps best known name Junkie XL. (wild, right?)

Before known for the recent Mad Max movies and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, he replaces Ramin Djawadi, who was first attached to the film at the time of its trailer a couple of months back and even had a small bit of his music play during its reveal.

The Details

At the time of writing, WB hasnt broke down why Djawadi stepped down. Both he and Holkenborg have previous superhero movie experience; the former did scores for Batman Begins and Eternals, and Holkenborg on Batman v Superman and the 2021 version of Justice League .

(He wouldve done the 2017 film, but Danny Elfman replaced him. ) Movies switching composers mid-production isnt a wholly new phenomenon; Rogue Ones score famously switched from Alexandre Desplat to Michael Giacchino in post-production.

Why This Matters

Well have to wait and hear how the Supergirl score fares under Holkenborgs direction—preferably before it hits theaters on June 26. Until then, well always have Djawadi, but briefly. Io9 has reached out for clarification or comment, and will update if or when we hear back.

This could have major implications for how we use technology going forward.
