Why This Matters

The newest realignment has eliminated the two divisions of Class AAAAA, the state’s largest schools, and instead has kept the four largest classifications around 40 members while enlarging Class A, the state’s smallest schools, to 66 members. Assignments were made based off of the SCHSL’s total enrollment figures, which include a three-times multiplier for every student that attends a school from outside of its designated attendance zone, and geography. Aiken High, Midland Valley, North Augusta and South Aiken are all slated to remain in Class AAAA, with Fox Creek projected to make the move up a class from AAA.

This is the kind of move that can define a season.
