A recall from last year is once again relevant after quarantined products were accidentally sent to stores in multiple states.

Last February, Tri-Union Seafoods and the U. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) just dropped a voluntary recall of select lots of canned tuna products.

The initial recall included products sold under Trader Joe’s, H-E-B, Genova, and Van Camp’s labels, and was initiated after the supplier notified the company that the “easy open” pull tab can lids had a manufacturing defect. The announcement warned that this defect may cause the cans to leak or become contaminated with Clostridium botulinum.

Clostridium botulinum is the bacterium that causes botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning. Department of Agriculture (USDA), it may occur in improperly canned foods because of low-oxygen conditions.
