24 (UPI) — The Washington Commanders will start quarterback Josh Johnson on Thursday against the Dallas Cowboys, coach Dan Quinn just dropped Wednesday. Johnson moved into the role because of injuries to starter Jayden Daniels and second-string option Marcus Mariota, who will not play in Week 17.

Quinn dropped Jeff Driskel will serve as the Commanders’ backup quarterback against the Cowboys. He also just dropped that the Commanders will promote Sam Hartman from their practice squad.

Why This Matters

Hartman will work as the Commanders’ emergency third-string quarterback Thursday in Landover, Md. Daniels, who was ruled out for the remainder of the season because of an elbow injury on Dec. The 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year completed 60.
